Manny Pacquiao advisor Michael Koncz is still avidly trying to produce the biggest event in boxing history ? Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather for some time in 2012.
Koncz has been in contact with Floyd Mayweather himself, according to Filippino journalist Ronnie Nathanielsz, however Koncz is not able to divulge any details of his communications with Mayweather, because of a promise to the controversial American boxer to keep all of their conversations and discussions private from the boxing media and fans. Apparently, Mayweather would prefer to tweet about fighting Pacquiao and brag about it publicly, then let the truth be known about taking real actions to make the fight with an actual Pacquiao representative. ?Whatever happened to Floyd telling Ellerbe, ?Make the damn fight??
Koncz also revealed to Nathanielsz that he has a series of meetings scheduled with Floyd Mayweather for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in Las Vegas. Koncz is based in Los Angeles.
Late last week, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum revealed that he has not been able to initiate any discussions with Team Mayweather reps Leonard Ellerbe and Al Haymon, lending creed to the widespread belief that Team Mayweather is not ? and has never been ? genuinely interested in agreeing to a fight which could end Mayweather?s carefully protected undefeated record which would, of course, consequently destroy all of his and Al Haymon?s future negotiating leverage.
The latest obstacle put forth by Mayweather last week is that he would not accept an even purse split of 50-50 with Pacquiao, despite the fact Pacquiao has proven to be the bigger live gate and pay-per-view draw in their recent fights.
Arum, weary of Team Mayweather?s schemes and posturing, insisted last week that for the ?Fight of the Century? to become reality, Floyd must agree to a 50-50 split and he must agree to a May 26, June 9 or a November date.
