The majority of the media, including yours truly, were firing all guns at Top Rank head Bob Arum as being the instrumental force behind the Pacquiao Vs. Mayweather roadblock. Arum certainly is a huge reason that this fight hasn’t happened and the media, and the fans have let him know about it.
I spoke with my source yesterday and he confirmed to me that a very brief phone conversation did in fact take place between Floyd and Manny via Michael Koncz cell phone. My source said nothing about Floyd turning down a 50/50 split, but this in fact is being reported by ESPN. If this is true, then the media needs to reload, and re aim their guns at Floyd Mayweather once again.
Both parties (Mayweather and Arum) have done their share of kicking the can further down the road. Recently it’s been Arum who’s been doing it. Floyd recently has made it very clear that if the money is right (for him) that’s he is ready on May 5th to fight Pacquiao.
Pacquiao is MORE than reasonable in asking for 50/50 money. Floyd needs to check himself. If my memory serves me right, Pacquiao is an 8 time world champion and a PPV money machine. He is a global icon. Pacquiao asking for half of the pot is absolutely reasonable, and Mayweather should accept it. Advertisement
Exactly why should Pacquiao get less money? Who’s the more active fighter? Floyd is looking at jail time in June, and he will have almost 3 months of living in a 6X9 cell to think about things. A 50/50 split is more than fair, and Pacquiao is well within his right to ask for it.
This by no stretch gets Arum off of the hook. He’s the biggest reason this fight hasn’t happened. Floyd’s greed just so happens to fuel an already flaming fire.
