While Bob Arum and Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KOs) has left the negotiating table open for Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (42-0, 26 KOs) to step in and put his desire to fight the BWAA’s Fighther of the Decade on paper, majority of boxing fans have resigned to the thought that this superfight is definitely not going to happen on May 5th. Mayweather had blocked the Cinco de Mayo celebration date with the MGM Grand, and was given a continuance for his prison term until June in court for the potential revenue it could bring to the city of Las Vegas. A list of possible Mexican opponents have surfaced as Mayweather’s dance partner, which includes Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (29-1-1, 18 KOs) and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (39-0-1, 29 KOs) as frontrunners.
Although he is a legit talent and a strong kid, Alvarez is too green at 21 for a witty vet of Mayweather’s caliber. Reports have it that Mayweather isn’t willing to pay Alverez the kind of money he wants to fight him either.
As far as Guerrero is concerned, Mayweather and his camp have dismissed any possibility of that match-up happening, as Mayweather himself claimed that he does not know who Guerrero is.
Guerrero isn’t buying Mayweather’s story and insists that he has the ‘goods’ to give the Las Vegas resident the first loss of his career.
“Mayweather really doesn’t want to fight me. He likes to hand-pick his opponents. I’m a southpaw who’s 5’9″ and my walk-around weight is 152 lbs. I’m bigger than he is. Plus, I have incredible punching power in both hands. And most of all, I’ve studied this guy and know him like the back of my hand. I’m the guy that can hurt him and he knows it,” Guerrero was quoted by FightSaga.com.
Guerrero also added that Mayweather is lying when he said that he is not aware of who he is, and gave him a dose of his own medicine. “I was the co-feature on one of his Pay Per View events, so he knows full well who I am. That’s a lie. Step up punk,” Guerrero said.
