What the heck?s happening in the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight?
It was supposed to be already calendared for May 5 by Floyd Mayweather Jr. himself.
Even if he had yet to ink a fight contract with Manny Pacquiao, Mayweather announced in November that he was fighting the ?little fella? a.k.a. Pacquiao. He named the MGM Grand in Las Vegas as fight venue.
Then, all too suddenly, a lady judge sentenced Mayweather to a 90-day jail term for domestic violence, thus, effectively torpedoing the bout as Mayweather was to start his prison stint on Jan. 6.
But in a change of heart (ala Supreme Court in the reversal of the PAL union decision), the judge reversed herself and moved Mayweather?s first day in jail to June 1.
In her decision, Judge Melissa Saragosa said she took cognizance of Mayweather?s contractual obligation to honor a fight at the MGM Grand on May 5. Fine, fine.
Now comes, too, Pacquiao, saying he?ll finally agree to fight Mayweather but on a ?50-50 split? of the purse, notwithstanding that the Filipino ring icon himself has a pending case of libel against the unbeaten American (42-0).
But on his umpteenth visit to Manila last week, Bob Arum, Pacquiao?s American promoter, said Pacquiao might not be ready to fight by May ?because the 28 stitches in his eyebrow (suffered during the Pacquiao-Marquez fight on Nov. 13) might not yet be totally healed by May 5.?
