Last night at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, junior featherweight contenders Teon Kennedy and Chris Martin battled to a ten round majority-draw verdict
Scores read 97-93 for Philadelphia’s Kennedy while the other two tallies rang in at 95-95.
Martin appeared to have the edge early but it was Kennedy who forced the issue late, staying Martin?s grill during the final rounds as he pressed the action. The last round was notable, as the two men traded shots for nearly the entire stanza to the crowd?s delight.
Kennedy sees his record go to 17-1-2 with 7 KO?s while Martin moves to 23-1-3 with 6 knockouts.
On the televised undercard, Cuban junior featherweight prospect Yordenis Ugas was an eight round decision over Esteban Almarez. Ugas scored a knockdown in the first but was unable to capitalize as Almarez showed grit in the following rounds despite being a bit outclassed.
Ugas moves to 11-0 with 5 knockouts while Almarez drops to 10-4 with 4 KO?s.
