Yesterday afternoon, former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz was spotted in Las Vegas, Nevada for a hearing that was ordered by the Nevada Commission in order for him to secure a license.
Ortiz, who is coming off of a 4th round knockout loss to Floyd Mayweather in September, admitted in a video interview in last month that he had intentionally tried to break Mayweather?s nose with a head butt during the fight. Ortiz?s comments drew ire from Executive director Keith Kizer, who had asked the fighter to come in to explain his case.
Ortiz mentioned during the hearing that his head butt was simply a reaction to Mayweather’s constant elbowing during the fight and was subsequently granted a one-fight license for his upcoming February 11th showdown with Andre Berto, set to take place at the MGM Grand.
