To say let?s just forget about a fight worth probably 150 million dollars or more is easier said than done. It seems as though every where you turn in search of boxing news, whether it be a forum, website, magazine, or podcast, the names of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao always pop up. I?ve been hearing a lot of fans say that I?m sick of talking about this fight. If it hasn?t happened now than I just don?t care about it anymore. But by saying that, in reality, you are still talking about it, and why would you even talk about something that you don?t care about? The fact of the matter is this fight will never just disappear from everyone?s minds. The same people, who said two and a half years ago that they?re through talking about this fight, are the same ones talking about it today.
There have been rabid fans on both sides that have escalated this fight into something more than just a boxing match. The usual debate that fans have before a fight when discussing who they think will win or who is the better fighter seems to be gone. Now fans have turned to insulting one another as well as the fighters with defamatory remarks and racial slurs. Even some boxing journalists have chosen to take a side and have also jumped in the fray.
This fight was supposed to give boxing that shot in the arm that it needed. It was supposed to bring boxing to the mainstream audience, which in turn would help enhance the sport in general. But ever since it was proposed over two and a half years ago, it has created a divide in the boxing community. People who are on the outside looking in and aren?t real hardcore fans of the sport are questioning why the biggest fight in boxing can?t be made. We starting to hear the usual boxing detractors again, claiming, this is what?s wrong the sport, this is why boxing is dying. They seem to think, like many others do, that boxing needs this fight.
I look at in a different way than maybe a lot of others do. I?m not so sure that boxing needs this fight or needs to be saved. I want this fight to happen because I want all the madness to stop. I want things to go back to the way they were before all this drama started. It seems as though a lot of talented fighters are being overshadowed because of all the news surrounding this fight. They are not getting the attention that they deserve because of it. Also I want to see the old type of boxing debate come back. Enough with the whole taking sides thing, who?s the coward, and who?s fault it is why the fight is not happening. I just want to go back to talking about the sport again and not the rest of this other garbage. Hopefully this fight happens, so we all can just move on and focus more on the potential future stars of the sport.
