Floyd Mayweather has challenged Manny Pacquiao via Twitter, telling his arch-rival, ?Pacquiao I?m calling you out, step up punk.?
Now all the pressure shifts to Pacquaio and Bob Arum to answer the call by accepting the challenge.
It?s a sudden, surprising and unexpectedly bold maneuver by Mayweather, who has kept a low profile in recent weeks. It?s also rare that Mayweather clearly commits directly to the notion of producing a fight with Pacquiao, he usually prefers using cryptic, vague phrases such as, ?If he takes the test we got a fight? or ?Manny Pacquiao you?re next?no I never said that, I never said that at all.?
Now Mayweather is showing the swagger and bravado his adoring fans love to see, and Pacquiao and Arum will have to make a quick decision, otherwise Mayweather will likely choose an alternate opponent, most likely Robert Guerrero.
Arum has stated that the temporary 45,000 seat arena might not be ready till late May. For the sake of boxing, the stadium builders will have to work overtime to have the structure ready for May 5.
Pacquaio has stated a few days ago that his preference is to fight Floyd in May. The Filipino Destroyer has always sincerely wanted to compete against Mayweather, there is no doubt about that. Now, at this point, after over 24 months of back and forth bickering, bluffs and posturing from both sides, with Mayweather finally on board and giving the greenlight, if Arum dares to use any kind of excuses to cancel the biggest event in the history of the sport, he must be thrashed, bashed and run out of the sport.
Let?s all hope this Fight of the Century is signed, sealed and delivered to the world on May 5. And what the heck, they can even make the rematch for November in a football stadium.
