Gatecrasher, trespasser, unwanted and univited interloper. “The Cat In The Hat” in first row ringside for the Amir Khan-Lamont Peterson title bout in Washington, DC, on Dec. 9 turns out to be veteran boxing figure Mustafa Ameen, a 57 year old who relocated from New Jersey to Seattle and then to Las Vegas. Ameen has been called all of these things and much worse amid allegations that his presence at ringside next to WBA supervisor Michael Welsh must have included some of what Don King so aptly describes as “trickeration,” some trick or subterfuge which contributed to the heavily favored Bolton, UK, Wanderer losing to hometown guy Peterson. I doubt all this but I do think that Ameen and his black wool hat have been famous, or at least gained such notoriety that the boxing agent should try to cash in on this by endorsing some hatmaker’s product.
