Donaire returned to action in October, but his opponent, Omar Narvaez, turned out to be more of a pacifist than a pugilist. Narvaez appeared more interested in simply making it to the 12th round rather than trying to compete with Donaire and win.
The fight was, at best, a dismal affair and took even more of the luster off of what had been such a promising start to the year.
Donaire, 29, wasn?t thrilled with much that occurred over the final 10 months. Despite not fighting much and missing out on potential intriguing matches, Donaire said straightening out his business issues was important.
?It was a year that had to happen,? he said, simply. ?Everything that happened, happened for a reason.?
His wife, Rachel, worked out his dispute with Top Rank with duBoef, Arum?s stepson and the company?s president. The Donaires simply desired for Nonito to fight regularly and in the biggest bouts possible.
