Bob Arum has been here before, the ‘HOT SEAT’. After news broke that a judge had delayed Mayweather’s sentence to June 1, so that he could make his May 5 fight date, Arum has been on the spot coming up with different excuses as to why Manny Pacquiao cannot fight on that date.
We have heard that the MGM is too small for the event, and Pacquiao needs five months to heal from a cut. What happened to the investors for the fight?, and the fact that you were trying to work on a fight without Goldenboy being involved. Arum loves to tell stories with shades of gray. He will take a partial truth and turn it into a full scale fabrication beyond belief. Example: he used Roger Mayweather’s court case as a reason to avoid a possible Mayweather-Pacquiao at years end. Without having one conversation about a fight with Mayweather’s team.
“I think the boxing fans are going to be disappointed, but they have to realize, they have to cut Floyd Mayweather some slack. I mean, we know that his uncle is facing some difficulties in the courts in Nevada and I can see his reluctance to commit to a big fight with Manny Pacquiao without having the services of his uncle, and if the boxing fans begrudge that, that’s really sad. I believe that people should be understanding. I mean, Floyd Mayweather is not saying that he’ll never fight Manny Pacquiao and Manny Pacquiao is not saying that if Floyd’s not available in November, Pacquiao’s not going to fight him. Pinoy boxing fans are starting to see the writing on the wall, they are very proud people, the’re loyalty knows no bounds. If they feel you have betrayed them, the outrage will be felt by many. They want this fight so badly, and so does the rest of the world, and they would be so heartbroken to see it not happen because of Bob Arum’s pride. Tony Bayotlang of Cebu State College said “I don’t understand why Mr. Arum wont let Manny fight Mayweather. You say you care about Manny, then let him fight, the fight he wants, not the one you want. I don’t want to see Manny fight marquez again. I’ve seen that. We want Mayweather.”
