I was about to stray away for writing about Manny Pacquiao for a while when I read reports that Lamont Peterson was on the running for the lottery prize in fighting the Pacman. It would be a good start for the year for the ?Tasmanian Devil of the Pacific? to fight someone like the Cinderella man. I tip my hat to the handlers of Lamont Peterson for the courage for letting their newly minted champion to face Manny. Of course along comes the multi-million dollar payoff for the Cinderella man. A loss to Pacquiao will not tarnish Lamont’s reputation as a fighter. Even if Manny will knock him out, he is still a draw. With a championship belt hanging on him, still, many will challenge him. But don’t take any chances. Lamont is a changed fighter. Just check his devastating win against Amir Khan. A win against Manny, though on a slim chance, will draw more flies to Lamont’s bank account.
With Golden Boy’s reported 1 million dollar offer for a possible rematch with the boxer formerly known as King Khan. Commoner Amir Khan was crying for a rematch as he lost a split decision to a go-for-broke Lamont Peterson. Granted if Lamont accepts the challenge, he becomes a millionaire. The former street urchin, along with his brother Anthony, will be getting his first million dollar contract which was a far cry to the 650,000 dollar he got in his first fight with Amir. But why would Lamont risk his fairy tale story to Amir for one million when he can get a riskier fight with high returns with Manny Pacquiao for twice as much? Or maybe more? The street urchin is not just a street urchin but street smart as well. He plays his ?stocks investment? well.
And what is it for Pacman? Pacman of course benefits all. With the right attitude and focus in training, it will be Redemption. I could now see future articles like ?Legitimate and Young Black Fighter challenges Pacquiao? that Bad Bob Arum would press release. Heck, I may be the one writing that if the contract was ironed out. To critics, Mosley was the old and fading. Clottey? Forget it. Lamont is young and bull strong. So he is the legit one. A pulverizing win for Manny Pacquiao will rejuvenate his declining career. Peterson vs. Paccquiao is Perfect.
So as long as Cinderella man will not turn turtle, it will be a perfect fight for the formerly known Mexecutioner. We want entertainment. We want a fight. We don’t want to see Clottey vs. Pacquiao Part II. We want Lamont to be part of the entertainment and not let Pacquiao steal the show and make it boring. Lamont should bring the kitchen sink, drain and all in the fight. As for Manny, he should baptize again his born-again left and right hand or drink his urine or just be his old self. It will do well, if not best, for both fighters. A long career for Lamont, win or lose. And a 50 million payday for the Pacman for a win in his next fight.
An impressive win to a legitimate black fighter leaves no excuses for Money Mayweather on November. If again, there will be excuses, I do wish the American Congress pass a bill for Mayweather to fight the Pacman or be strip with his American citizenship. Can America do that? I’m on wishful thinking. A refusal to fight is an embarrassment to Americans.
Don’t even get in the picture, Bob. Just make this fight and make a good deal for Cinderella Man. Give what is due. It will not be good for him, but would be best for your cash cow. Close the deal, and we the boxing fans will tip our hat to you! Happy New Year!
