Hello. I enjoy boxingtalk mailbags…both yours and your colleagues. I Recently saw a video on you tube called “the truth about cotto Margarito ” intended to provide evidence that margarito did indeed cheat. Some of it was speculative tough not neccesarily wrong but there is a really compelling piece of evidence . At some point between rounds somebody in margarito’s corner asks him “Como esta la pegada?” (translated to “how’s the punching power”?) and Margarito answers “No se, No se”(I don’t know, I don’t know). Now, If they were talking about Cotto’s power he could have said “I don’t feel the Punches” or “he hits like a Girl”. If they were asking about his own Why would he not know? Because they weren’t askig him about Cotto’s power or if he, Margarito, felt that Cotto was feeling his punches…they were asking about the plaster! Really doesn’t make any other sense to me. Frankly to say that Margarito would have won the first fight anyway (To be fair I don’t know if you wrote that or one of your colleagues, sorry) is totally baseless. As baseless and speculative as saying Margarito cheated every single fight! He might or he might not. I am no boxer or tough guy but i am sure I will stand a bare handed beating for longer than I will stand being hit with a Baseball bat! Does Cotto fade late in figths? Yes, he has. Has he made adjustments in the past and won fights late? Yes, see Clottey, Judah, Mosley. Was Cotto relieved that the fight was over? You Bet. Wouldn’t you be? Does Cotto have a Warrior’s heart? Undeniably. Does Margarito have world class chin, Warrior’s heart and stamina? Yes. Is he any better than Luis Resto? No, he is as much of a criminal! Would you say Resto would have beaten Billy Collins anyway? I will also challenge the notion that Margarito hurt Pacquia the most. He did hurt Pacquiao to the body but people forget that Cotto ruptured Pacquiao’s ear in their fight. The problem in the Pacquiao fight was that Cotto was training himself and didn’t have much left after four rounds…also he tried to outmuscle Pacquio instead of trying to outbox him like he did in their first round. anyway…I hate cheaters of all kinds. It still pisses me off that Panama Lewis can earn a living…and had he not given something to Pryor in the Arguello fight…Arguello might have won or at least finished the fight on his feet. As said by Resto Lewis used to break ammonia caps in the water which would give his fighters an extra Boost…which is what might have helped Pryor finish Arguello in the 14th after nearly having his head nearly taken off by a right hand in the 13th. Of course there was a rematch but in that one Arguello chose to fight a really uncharateristic kill or be killed fight and Pryor won. One last thing..I love Manny Pacquiao but that would turn to hate if it was suddenly proved the he took steroids. Just like I really respected and even admired Margarito until the Mosley fight.
