As the dawn of a new year awaits, there’s a lot of good fights boxing fans are looking forward to in 2012.
Here’s the Top 5 match-ups I want to see inside the ring this coming new year.
5. Sergio Martinez vs. Dmitry Pirog
Martinez, for some, is one of the most feared Champs that we have today. The guy got skills and power, though he’s already 36 (turning 37 this February), he still managed to win both of his fights in 2011 with KO victories against Dzinziruk, and a hard-earned one against the European middleweight champion Barker.
Dmitry Pirog, for me, is the dark horse of the Middleweight division. After winning the WBO belt by knocking out Daniel Jacobs, the marquee names at 160 started to avoid him. At 6’1 with his very intimidating style, I want to see how Martinez will try to to handle this Russian. The winner of this fight for me is the real Champ and #1 Boxer of the middleweight Division.
