I SAID here last week that, at the earliest, Manny Pacquiao will fight in May 2012.
I also said that Pacquiao?s most probable foe by that time could be Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Today, it?s yes and no to both.
Pacquiao might probably fight in May but his foe might be the undefeated Keenan Bradley. Not Mayweather.
It?s not entirely Pacquiao?s fault that he won?t be fighting Mayweather in May.
Blame it on Mayweather, the motor mouth from Las Vegas, Nevada.
While Mayweather himself had set the May fight in a rather oblique way, it was his undoing of a couple of years back that thoroughly smashed the projected Fight of the Century from happening six months from now.
For, even before Pacquiao could narrowly eke out a majority-decision win over Juan Manuel Marquez on November 13, Mayweather had started trumpeting that he?d meet the ?little man,? aka Pacquiao, ?on May 6, 2012.?
The Fraud that is Mayweather even boasted that he had reserved the MGM Grand in Las Vegas as the venue for the May 6 bout that is projected to give each fighter a minimum purse of $50 million.
Alas, barely a month after his attention-grabbing announcement, Mayweather got the shock of his life: A lady judge sentenced him to a 90-day jail term for domestic violence starting on January 6.
And he was lucky he was meted only that.
But Mayweather saw it coming. In fact, he knew it could have been worse had he decided to duke it out with the law.
Avoiding felony charges that could possibly send him to a 34-year stint in the slam, Mayweather, appearing in court like a lamb this time, entered a guilty plea.
It was a ploy to avoid the stiff penalty that could have totally put an end to a life bathed in celebrity, if not effectively halted his boxing career.
This, after his former girlfriend sued him for domestic battery charges in September 2010 in an outrage that also saw Mayweather threaten and harass their two children, then aged 11 and 10.
The police blotter also showed Mayweather stealing the cell phone of his son.
What a cheapskate.
The incidents were an offshoot of Mayweather?s resentment over his ex-girlfriend?s admission that she was seeing another man.
Apparently, Mayweather couldn?t take it that the mother of his children would drop him for another man.
Know what?
Mayweather?s a chicken, if not a downright sissy.
He thinks he?s invincible?
He thinks he can?t be dumped?
He thinks he?s even infallible?
Comes now the woman he hasn?t even married despite bearing him with three healthy, lovable kids.
What could be crueler than seeing your love fall for another dude?
The truth is, what Mayweather absorbed was a deathly blow smack in his face. Knockout!
When he came to, Mayweather was even adamant. Unremorseful.
In his usual arrogant mien, he sneaks in a couple of the most dastardly swipes a man can unleash against a woman?exactly the same manner he did to Victor Ortiz a while back to wrest the world welterweight crown by way of a stinking knockout.
And we thought Mike Tyson was the baddest of them all.
Look, Mayweather had split with his girl.
And yet, Mayweather still wants to have a say in what his former girl wishes to do with her life.
C?mon, man, wake up. She doesn?t love you anymore. That simple.
Leave the woman alone.
Give her back her life.
She has to mend a broken heart, if not a shattered life?all because of you.
For once, act like a man.
Or, better yet, be like the other man who has fallen for your ex.
In fact, I salute that man. Unlike you, he?s got balls, you know.
He?s not afraid of you. You can?t coerce, terrorize him even, to bow to your will.
In spite of your fearsome fists, that man still fell for your woman, in the process never throwing caution to the wind.
It?s like, that man?s telling the world you are but crap. You are 42-0 in the ring, yes, but, hey, to him, that doesn?t mean a thing.
Love conquers all, indeed.
Real life isn?t about being a boxing legend.
You face the music when your feet are on the ground.
So, to reiterate my plea: Mr. Floyd ?The Fraud? Mayweather Jr., behave from hereon, please?
That woman is not yours.
The law is not for the wicked.
The ?little man? is not for you, either?at least, for now.
And, yes, the world is not yours.
