THE camp of Filipino pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao is unperturbed when told about the jail time set to be served by his American rival Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Yesterday, Las Vegas Clark County judge Melissa Saragosa sentenced Mayweather to 90 days in jail after the American pleaded guilty on misdemeanor domestic violence charges.
A report from Las Vegas, however, said Mayweather may be out of jail after 45 days if he behaves like a saint.
With that, Pacquiao associate and international promoter Rex ?Wakee? Salud said may still have at least two months to prepare if he eyes a May 5 ring return.
?Who knows, maybe his time inside will give him more time to think about the fight. If ever financial problems crop up along the way, then this may give Mayweather more pressure to finally accept the challenge,? said Salud.
Mayweather is set to begin his sentence on Jan. 6 apart from performing 100 hours of community service and a 12-month domestic violence program.
The 34-year-old undefeated Mayweather (42-0, 26 KOs) is facing several more felony cases, the most notable of which was the reported assaulting the mother of his three children in September of last year.
Recently, Mayweather?s camp disclosed they have locked a May 5 fight date with cable giant HBO and that they want to fight the best fighter available, including ?the little guy,? obviously alluding to Pacquiao.
But Pacquiao?s promoter Bob Arum has reservations about a Pacquiao-Mayweather happening on May 5, which traditionally has been a schedule for major boxing cards involving Latino fighters as the date is a Mexican national holiday.
