Floyd Mayweather Jr. is headed to the slammer in Las Vegas beginning on Jan. 6 and Manny Pacquiao, who just purchased a $25 million yacht, can set off for the open seas. Or, while I’m mixing metaphors awkwardly, should I say that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and Pacman just got a free pass? Mayweather, who will “cell-ebrate” his 35th birthday in the Clark County Jail, is off the table for a first half of 2012 Super Bout against the Pinoy Idol. We can only speculate if that’s the reason for the slow, measure no rush stance taken by Arum in even trying to negotiate the so called Dream Fight. But the WOJO (Wise, Old, Jewish Owl) certainly had a heads up from Vegas sources about Mayweather’s pending face at the Las Vegas Justice Center. All in all, you have to say this sentence was more than fair to the controversial Mayweather. The verbal scolding the judge gave him (see TMZ video) about his poor conduct terrorizing not only his ex-lover but two children, one aged 9 and a 10 year old, underlined the emphasis on deterring domestic violence. On the other hand, a mere 90 day sentence, a $2,500 fine, 100 hours of community service and completing DV prevention classes is about the same sentence any Joe Blow coming before a Clark County court would wind up getting.
