Fight of the year- For 2011 fight of the year I?m going to go with a tie between Victor Ortiz vs. Andre Berto and Pawel Wolak vs. Delvin Rodriguez 1. Both fights were back and forth grueling fights. Other great fights that come to mind are, Rios vs. Acosta, Linares vs. Demarco, and Kirkland vs. Angulo.
Fighter of the year- Fighter of the year for me is going to have to come down to Brandon ?Bam Bam? Rios or the winner of Andre Ward vs. Carl Froch fight that is going down this coming Saturday night. Rios had a big year in 2011 with big wins over Miguel Acosta, Urbano Antillon, and John Murray. Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao, and Sergio Martinez do not deserve to be named fighter of the year this year for the simple fact that they beat opponents that they were supposed to beat. In my opinion, Rios, Froch and Ward beat tougher opposition so that is why I decided to go with Rios or the Ward/Froch winner.
Trainer of the year- For trainer of the year I?m going to go with Virgil Hunter. Robert Garcia also deserves to be mentioned here for his work with Rios and Donaire, but I will have to go with Virgil Hunter for the simple fact that when the Super 6 was first announced, the favorites to win it all were Kessler and Abraham. Andre Ward along with Andre Dirrell were viewed as being too green for the Super 6 tournament. Here we are, 2 years later and Andre Ward is still unbeaten and will now be facing Carl Froch for 168 pound supremacy.
KO of the year- Nonito Donaire blitzing Fernando Montiel in the second round of their fight.. What a shot! It was perfectly placed and came with blazing speed. The shot was so hard that Montiel began kicking his feet like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum as he laid on the canvas.
Round of the year- It is a tie for me between Alfredo Angulo vs. James Kirkland round 1 and Victor Ortiz vs. Andre Berto round 6. Hernan Marquez vs. Luis Concepcion round 1 was also right on up there.
