Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao received Wednesday the Ring championship belt that placed him in the company of the world?s boxing legends and contemporary greats.
President Arroyo, assisted by Ring Magazine Editor-in-Chief Nigel Collins, presented Pacquiao, former IBC super bantamweight champion, with the coveted belt in a ceremony held Wednesday morning in Malaca?ang?s Rizal Hall.
Pacquiao merited the prized Ring belt after he knocked out Mexican world featherweight champion and heavy favorite Marco Antonio Barrera four months ago in a non-title bout at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
The boxer from General Santos City became the “consensus” world featherweight champion and the only second Filipino, after the great Pancho Villa, to receive the official belt of the “Bible of Boxing”.
