Cebuano boxer Bart Abapo will try to rejuvenate his career as he tries to wrest the Paba super-lightweight title from Indonesian Daudy Bahari in a 12-round championship showdown in Singapore today.
Abapo, who holds a 17-5-3 record with 12 knockouts, has won only three times in his last 11 fights, including a loss and a draw in his last two fights.
According to www.boxrec.com, Abapo lost by unanimous decision to Sataporn Singwangcha last March 10 and drew with Christopher Saluday last April 22.
On the other hand, Daudy Bahari holds an impressive 28-1-1 record, with 11 KOs.
Bahari’s only loss was to Motoki Sasaka last November, while he drew with Daigoro Yamamoto in January 2005.
His latest victim is Dennis Laurente, winning by decision in 12 rounds last April 6.
In yesterday’s weigh-in, both fighters made weight effortlessly. According to Philboxing.com, Abapo tipped in at 138.8 pounds, while Bahari weighed at 139.5lb.
Meanwhile, the fight will also feature the first Singapore professional boxers in almost 40 years fighting in the city-state.
Bantamweight Mohamad Nor Rizan and cruiserweight David Alexis will face Indonesians Hendrik Borneo and Yasser Kadafi, respectively. (ML)
