My immediate thought after he got cracked, whacked and jacked in one tumultuous round by Colombian clouter Breidis Prescott was, well good then for UK Golden Boy, Amir Khan. Losing to Prescott removed a yoke, a burden and a virtual mental noose from the charismatic Bolton lad’s neck. It removed the incredible pressure that is attached to being undefeated as a professional. But, now after losing a winnable decision and his two world 140 pound titles to plucky Lamont Peterson in Peterson’s backyard, you could say Khan has gone a bit too far in not being unbeaten. Prescott took his “0” and now Peterson has put a second L on his record. Some Khan backers are hitting the panic button. Some even want to kick him to the kerb (is Herbie Hide still kerb crawling?). It’s ridiculous. Khan is still a tenderoni, an incomplete package and has just turned age 25. Don’t the baby out with the dishwater or however that cliche goes. Muhammad Ali’s career ended with five defeats. Nonpareil Sugar Ray Robinson lost 19 times and had six draws in 173 pro bouts while his rival Jake “Raging Bull” LaMotta, still walking upright and alert in New York at the ripe, old age of 90, ended his crazy career with 19 losses also and four draws. Being undefeated is overstated and overrated except if you ask Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his Mayweather Mafia followers.
