Oscar De La Hoya says Top Rank isn?t willing to make the best fights possible

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is presently in Washington, D.C. for this weekend?s junior welterweight title fight between WBA/IBF champion Amir Khan and capable challenger Lamont Peterson.

During some down time during fight week, De La Hoya discussed the possibility of Floyd Mayweather Jr., a fighter Golden Boy has worked with closely over the years, facing off with resurgent champion Miguel Cotto.

Cotto is coming off of a very impressive 10th round TKO over Antonio Margarito this past weekend at Madison Square Garden in New York and has stock appears to be as high as ever. Cotto has been promoted by Top Rank since his February 2001 debut but the fact remains that he will be a free agent once 2011 comes to a close.

And while the classy Puerto Rican stated his allegiance to promoter Bob Arum and his company after the Margarito bout, the fact remains that Golden Boy will surely be looking to entice him with a lucrative deal on the first day of the coming year.
