In the post-fight press conference as New York City’s Madison Square Garden, promoter Bob Arum indicated what he wants next for two of his winning boxers from last night’s show. For Miguel Cotto, Arum would like Cotto to move up to middleweight and face Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr., a scenario that would infuriate world middleweight champion Sergio Martinez and his promoter, Lou DiBella. Of course, at this stage in his career, Cotto has the final say in his next opponent, and his contract with Arum’s Top Rank is now over. Cotto told Steve Farhood in a post-fight interview he is likely to remain with Arum and Top Rank. For Brandon Rios, who lost his lightweight title for failing to make weight, but punished John Murray in an over-the-weight bout, Arum said Rios will never fight at 135 pounds again, and wants him to move up to 140 and face Mike Alvarado, who won a blood-and-guts war a few weeks ago against Breidis Prescott.
