Miguel Cotto TKO10 Antonio Margarito
Photo: Chris Farina – Top Rank Three-division world champion and the Pride of Puerto Rico Miguel Cotto got his revenge, dominating Antonio Margarito in their rematch by winning every round on route to stopping the rugged Mexican at the end of Round 9 by a doctor?s ordered TKO. Margarito?s right eye was beaten completely shut. As was the case in their first fight, Cotto started out very quickly and boxed brilliantly to keep Margarito off balance and in the centre of the ring. The action became furious in the third as Cotto cut Margarito and both men went toe-to-toe in an intense and brilliant sequence that sent the crowd into a frenzy. The pride of Puerto Rico kept his foot on the gas and continued to out-box Margarito into the middle rounds. This time (unlike their first encounter) Cotto picked up the pace in the late rounds and Margarito?s eye began to swell shut. After winning nearly every round up to and including the ninth, the ringside physician called a halt to the bout before the beginning of Round 10 due to the serious injury to Margarito?s eye.
