Two salamabitches smarting well Top Rank’s starpower

HOT POTATO via New York – Former WBA, WBO, & IBF Welterweight champion Antonio Margarito and undefeated WBA World Lightweight champion Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios both know what best image they would get with WBO Welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao’s boasting power that keeps reflecting on the face of boxing.

For infamous Margarito who already has fought Pacquiao and whose boxing license got suspended for a while because of illegal wraps found on his hands just before he fought Sugar Shane Mosley in 2009 which was after his fight with Miguel Cotto, he sees the best reflection of himself a broken orbital bone to the right from Pacquiao’s swift left explosion.

Still, Margarito says “Pacquiao is a great fighter and a gentleman.” H says, “I respect him.”

But, for Rios, who has not fought Pacquiao yet, not fighting the Filipino icon someday would just be as broken as that mirror of “broken dreams”.

And these two salamabitches, like Pacquiao, both venture into this feisty promotion under the grace Top Rank’s high powered marketing arm.

Rios would rather not hesitate to issue challenge to prominent fighters in the lightweight division and even bolsters the weight on his promoter Top Rank Robert “Bob’ Arum to see to it whoever he wants to fight.

From this writer’s notes of Rios’ issuances status-post fight on his first title defense against rugged Urbano Antillo, these during the post-fight conference at Home Depot in Carson, California, he insisted: “If I beat the toughest salamabitch at 140, then, if Arum thinks I can fight Pacquiao since Pacquiao is a tough salamabitch, I’ll be ready to fight him.”

For Arum, “Rios is the kind of guy who can match the power and intensity of Manny Pacquiao.”

Rios, 25, is a good marketing persona who has the ability keep boxing alive in the Latino community, at least at this early stage of his career. He is undefeated of 28 professional fights with one draw. He will defend his WBA Lightweight title against John Murray in the undercard of fellow Mexican-American Margarito versus Puerto Rican Cotto, the reigning WBA (Super) light middleweight champion, on December 3, 2011 at the Madison Square Garden, in New York, New York.
