Bobby Pacquiao ready to defend regional title

REIGNING World Boxing Council (WBC) Continental Americas super featherweight champ Bobby Pacquiao has vowed to be his own man after his fight with Kevin Kelley this Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

The younger brother of Manny Pacquiao gets his much-cherished coming-out ring party when he takes on the durable Kelly in the first defense of his WBC regional title underneath the Miguel Cotto-Paulie Malignaggi clash at the famed Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Knicks.

“I have sparred more than 100 rounds for this fight against tough fighters as Israel Vasquez and Gerson Guerrero. I’m as ready as can be,” said Pacquiao.

Bobby said he wants people to refer to him not just simply as “the brother of Manny Pacquiao,” but one who can stand on the merits of his own ring accomplishments.

Solar Sports airs the fight starting at 10 a.m. as well as the Miguel Cotto-Paulie Malignaggi mainer. Solar will also air the Antonio Tarver-Bernard Hopkins light heavyweight championship in Atlantic City.

Kelley, a fellow southpaw known as the “Flushing Flash,” is on a four-bout win streak since being stopped by Marco Antonio Barrera in 2003. He also boasts of having faced big names as Erik Morales, Derrick Gainer and Prince Naseem Hamed.
