Strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza is one of the most visible presence in the sport today. Since teaming up with multiple trainer of the year honoree Freddie Roach four years ago they have become boxing?s dynamic duo. The two men share championship stock in one of the most recognizable athletes in the world in pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao, junior welterweight champion Amir Khan and the rapidly evolving middleweight title holder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Ariza shared his thoughts with Boxingtalk, on the most recent chapter in the fistic epic between Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.
?I am not Happy about the fight but it?s not for me to be happy or sad, I?m disappointed after all the shit I talked, (laughing) did we do something wrong? No I don?t think so the fight turned out the way it did because of the style that Marquez fought. Manny tried and he fought hard for 12 rounds. We did not expect to see a Marquez who was backing up all night here?s the thing I expected Marquez to fight and make it a war, no one thought he was going to be so tactical, I thought he was going to do what he said he was going to do and not take the last 2 rounds off,? Ariza.
Ariza is of the firm belief that if Marquez is upset at the decision that he needs to blame the man in the mirror. He stated that you have to take the title from the champion and feels that there was a mistake made by the Marquez corner in telling their fighter they were winning as the fight headed into the crucial championship rounds. ?How can you leave the biggest fight in your career to the hands of the judges??
Pacquiao has made history with every victory. Each win seems to be bigger than the previous triumph and through his success has set the bar of excellence at an all time high. Ariza is aware of this and he was also conscious that his man was the significant favorite going into the November 12th championship bout. People not only expect the world most popular fighter to win but to be spectacular.
