Given the Pacquiao vs Marquez III controversy, early indications are Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum is allegedly pursuing Pacquiao vs Marquez IV. And while several unconfirmed sources claim Pacquiao would agree to a fourth fight with Marquez, its unknown whether Marquez wants to engage in fistic fury with Pac Man one more time.
If Pacquiao vs Marquez IV is officially announced by the end of the year, the stage could be set for Mayweather vs Khan next year.
Amir Khan (26-1, 18 KO) has made no secret he plans to move to welterweight sometime next year. The only thing that would prevent him from doing so at the start of 2012 is a challenge from current WBO Jr. Welterweight belt holder, Tim Bradley. But since a jr. welterweight unification bout with Bradley is still unlikely, Khan expects to retain his title next month against Lamont Peterson and vacate the division in pursuit of a high-profile, big-money welterweight showdown with pound-for-pound sensation and boxing legend, Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
“A Mayweather fight, you know that fight can happen within the next nine to 12 months,” Khan recently informed Sky Sports.
“It’s a fight that I want, it’s a fight that the public want – it’s a public demand fight and also boxing fans would love to see that fight instead of Mayweather fighting someone they know he’d beat.
“Against me Mayweather will have problems and it will be a tough fight for him.
“By the time that fight will came I’ll be 25 – I’ll be more mature, stronger, more experienced. It’ll be a perfect time for me,” he asserted.
Earlier this year, Floyd Mayweather (42-0, 26 KOs) expressed intentions to fight Khan in the United Kingdom in front of his ‘(most) favorite fans in the world.’ This bout would give Mayweather an opportunity to do something he’s yet to do in his fifteen year career – fight outside the United States.
