Four-time Trainer of the Year Freddie Roach wants his star fighter Manny Pacquiao to agree to meet WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather next and not contemplate a fourth instalment with Juan Manuel Marquez.
Roach, who cornered for the ?Pacman? in another closely fought battle with the Mexican last weekend, is hoping that given the choice, his fighter would go for the biggest fight out there for himself and the fans.
“The Mayweather fight is the one the whole world wants to see, everywhere I go fans tell me that,” Roach told ESPN.
“For me, Mayweather is the number one choice to fight next. I’m trying to get hold of Manny, to get his feelings on it. If the choice is $30 million to fight Marquez or Mayweather for $100 million in the biggest fight of all time, I’m sure he’d go for Mayweather. But I haven’t had the chance to talk to him.”
Pacquiao?s promoter Bob Arum has so far hinted at another Marquez fight for the Filipino but Roach intends on selling the Mayweather fight as the more important of the two and expects Arum to listen to the 32 year-old WBO title holder?s wishes.
A Pacquiao v Mayweather showdown would be the biggest grossing fight of all time, without question, beating all other previous fights hands down and the winner would finally end an extensive debate between fight fans.
