The handlers of Manny Pacquiao have been cautioned not to agree to advance the original date of a planned May 22 title fight against WBA/IBF featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez to May 8 after the giant cable network and Top Rank Inc., president Bob Arum who handles Marquez agreed to switch dates to accommodate a title fight of Top Rank between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Paul Spadafora. Widely respected Ring Magazine Editor-in-Chief Nigel Collins advised Pacquiao?s business manager Rod Nazario ?say no because while you are going to make everybody happy (referring to the promoters and HBO) you are going to be sad.?
Collins who is in Manila to present the coveted Ring Magazine featherweight championship belt to Pacquiao at a Malacanang ceremony in the presence of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo whom Collins commended for her concern and support for Pacquiao, showed his own concern over reports that Pacquiao was not in training and instead was spending long hours and late nights playing pool and losing big money.
