Nov 10, 2011 – If you read a press release circulated by promoter Don King?s publicist Alan Hopper today, one would be led to think that Felix ?Tito? Trinidad gave Don King a $500,000 cash gift for the promoter?s 80th birthday party. Not the case, says Felix Trinidad Senior, ?Tito?s? lifelong trainer and father. As it turns out, according to a story published by Puerto Rican news source El Nuevo Dia, the Trinidads merely forgave money that was owed to them by the iconic promoter.
?The 425,000 dollars we forgave King from paying, was the last of the debt owed to Tito from his fight with Roy Jones,? said Trinidad Senior. So, even at 80 years old, Don King is pulling shenanigans within the world of boxing, spinning debt forgiveness into a gift.
