Fight fans would like to believe that the third meeting between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Marquez should be filled with fireworks and wall to wall action. But if you ask Freddie Roach, he could care less about pints of blood being spilled for twelve rounds. What Roach wants is for his fighter to obliterate Juan Manuel Marquez and leave him lying on the canvas in a heap. That would be the perfect exclamation point in a trilogy that has been loaded with questions.
?I believe all fights should end in a knockout,? Roach said to a group of boxing scribes on Thursday. ?Manny is a compassionate guy and he let the last two guys (Mosley and Margarito) off the hook. I urge him not to be compassionate in fights because one punch can change a fight.?
But Roach also believe that there isn?t much compassion in Pacquiao these days, especially when it comes to Marquez. Ever since their 2008 clash, Marquez has been campaigning heavily to get a third fight with the Filipino. While that is fine with Roach, it?s the manner in which Marquez has gone about it that has drawn the ire of Pacquiao.
?Fighters always think they won. Both fights were close fights but the judges did their jobs. Obviously, he thinks he won. But you don?t go to his hometown in the Philippines and campaign against the guy like ?f*ck you,?? Roach says. And because of the blatant disrespect, the everlasting smile on Pacquiao?s face has given way to a more sinister sneer when Pacquiao gets in the gym.
?He?s been a little bit meaner to his sparring partners and his attitude is a little bit more aggressive,? Roach revealed. ?He wants this fight badly especially after Marquez wore the ?Marquez Beat Manny Twice? t-shirts and went to the Philippines to campaign for another fight. I think Manny is going to pay him back.?
