This Saturday’s Pacquiao-Marquez pay-per-view not only brings us the third installment of an outstanding series between two warriors, but it also delivers a pretty nice undercard.
Here’s a look at five points of interest for all those deciding to invest their time and money into the show:
Weathering the Early Storm
We all know that Juan Manuel Marquez has a chip on his shoulders and will be coming to fight in the only way he knows how? smart, strong, and focused on offense. Pacquiao, of course, will be easy to find and eager to engage. The question will be whether Marquez will be able to fight his fight, develop his strategy, and stay upright through the bombastic opening rounds of the contest. If the Mexico City native can hang tough through Pacquiao’s opening salvo and start to work into a rhythm, things might not turn out so bad.
Marquez? Too Old, Too Small?
Not to harp on the obvious, but Marquez is 38-years-old and has shown signs of slowing down in recent performances. At this stage of his career, it wouldn’t be uncommon at all if Marquez got real old, real fast? especially against a buzzsaw of activity like Pacquiao. Also, Marquez will be climbing two weight classes to meet this challenge. The extra weight and the advanced age could very well mean that a second wind might not be so easy to attain if/when he needs it.
