You sound foolish! Floyd Mayweather called Manny Pacquiao out BY NAME on BETs 106 and Park last week (check Youtube). Floyd’s representative, Leonard Ellerbe, is on record saying they want “the little guy”, which is Manny Pac. Who else needs to say it loud and clear for you? Al Haymon?! For him reserving Cinco De Mayo weekend and a venue only makes great business sense. We already know the fight wont happen because Manny will not submit to the same exact tests that Floyd (who has submitted 2 consecutive times), Shane Mosley and Victor Ortiz have submitted to. If the tests are good enough for them, its good enough for Manny. He is not above the fray. Now, I will give you all the props and kudos if Manny agrees to testing, and Floyd finds a way out of the fight. But at this point, people are so blinded by Manny?s ring brilliance, that they cant see that Manny’s promoter Bob Arum may be a problem in making this fight, seeing as though he has to co-promote it and Manny, because he has no idea what he is consuming. If I?m Floyd, I do not fight Manny without these tests. Then and only then can we have a fair, and blockbuster fight. So Floyd will be fighting on May 5th, 2012, but will it be against Pacman? — Steve Taylor
Darrell’s Response: Steve, how many times does Floyd need to cry wolf before you and others take his words with a grain of salt? The testing issue is no longer an ?issue?. Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach and Manny himself have said so in recent interviews. Do you really think that a good way to make this fight would be to dictate the date and venue? This is Floyd being Floyd and trying to control everything and when Pacquiao?s team responds the way Floyd would and says ?wait a minute, who the hell are you dictate all the terms?? He will respond ?you see, he don?t want to fight!? It?s all games, games, and more games. Floyd and his team have come up one clever way after another to avoid the fight. Please don?t buy into this testing bull. Floyd doesn?t really believe he is on anything. He may have convinced himself of that because he is not keen on facing a fighter who is a huge threat to his undefeated record. To be clear, I do NOT believe that Mayweather is physically afraid of Manny, rather he is afraid of Manny?s ability to put a blemish on his undefeated record that he protects the way a mother protects her young. I can almost guarantee you that if they begin negotiating this fight again and the blood testing is agreed upon and is no longer an issue (as it no longer appears to be), Floyd will start asking for the lion?s share of the pot.
