As much as boxing fans would rather see Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Saturday night, there is every reason to believe that Juan Manuel Marquez deserves an opportunity to settle the score. The trilogy in boxing, as this has become, was the best option for Pacquiao with Floyd Mayweather Jr still looking on the outside.
And a Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown, something that may be fiction or reality, does become possible again, with the assumption Pacquiao will settle the score and get a clear win at the MGM Grand Arena on HBO Pay-Per-View Saturday night. Marquez deserves the fight and a trilogy is so much associated with the history of boxing.
As Marquez and Pacquiao made their grand entrances at the MGM Grand Tuesday, there have been questions as to why this fight was made which does not appear to be a concern to Pacquiao or his promoter Bob Arum. There is always interest in Pacquiao with or without the Mayweather speculation. Marquez is the proper opponent and can make this an interesting fight that could go the distance.
