A GRANDER welcome awaits Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista in Tagbilaran City when the WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight champion arrives today.
However, the welcome will be even more meaningful as the Candijay-native is now an adopted son of Tagbilaran.
“Boom-Boom is now an adopted son of Tagbilaran City. Actually his father is a native of Tagbilaran and it is his mother who is from Candijay,” Tagbilaran Mayor Dan Neri Lim told Sun.Star Cebu.
Bautista arrived yesterday in Manila, flew in to Cebu last night and will leave for Tagbilaran City at 6:30 a.m. today.
Bautista, who could be the next boxing superstar of the country, is fresh off a third-round knockout win over Nicaraguan Roberto Bonilla at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California last Sunday in his debut fight under Golden Boy Promotions.
“Boholanos are very proud of what Bautista did and we will keep this kind of support as long as he will continue to bring honor to our province and to the country,” said Lim.
From the Tagbilaran port, a motorcade will carry Bautista around the city and his final stop will be at City Hall, where Lim and other city officials will wait to present him the resolution making him an adoptive son of the city. After the lunch that will be hosted by Tagbilaran officials, Bautista will go to Candijay, where another hero’s welcome awaits for him.
