The date switch was feasible because Top Rank is co-promoter of the Juan Manuel Marquez-Manny Pacquiao featherweight title fight. That fight would move to May 8 under the current plan, swapping dates with Mayweather-Spadafora.
With a common promoter and television network for both dates, the only remaining logistical question was local arena availability, which was handled in one telephone call.
Mayweather has fought four times here as a professional, three times in championship bouts, including a Nov. 1 lightweight title defense against Phillip Ndou which he won by seventh-round stoppage.
