LOS ANGELES ? Get it done with the least amount of effort.
Trainer Freddie Roach has urged his ward Manny Pacquiao to go for the kill as soon as the Filipino fighter puts Juan Manuel Marquez in trouble.
Roach doesn?t even care if it happens early in the first round.
?If you jump on him in the first round, you can knock him out in one round,? Roach told Manila-based scribes on Thursday after presiding over Pacquiao?s seven-round sparring session and six-round punch mitts routine at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood.
?I told him ?don?t go easy on him.?
Pacquiao assured him he will obey his instructions when he and Marquez face off for the third time next week at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
?He told me, ?it?s not going to be like the last two fights.??
Roach believes Pacquiao won?t let the 38-year-old Marquez off the hook this time.
?I could see fire in his eyes,? said Roach, who is in his eleventh year training Pacquiao.
Roach said he has never seen Pacquiao so pumped up in training.
?Not even when he was preparing to fight Oscar de la Hoya.?
Pacquiao is so motivated that in their eight-week training, he had only asked to take the day off twice.
?He?s been working so hard so I am happy to give him a day off (Wednesday)? said Roach, adding that Pacquiao had also been unforgiving to his sparring partners, a sign of the fighter?s mean streak that has developed due to his genuine hatred towards Marquez.
Still, Roach believes Marquez is dangerous enough not to be messed with, something that Pacquiao also realizes.
