Why Sergio Martinez?s manager believes Pacquiao-Mayweather will never happen

It seems like late 2009 all over again as some interest is again being stirred in a possible fight between the world?s two best fighters, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather, through his advisor Leonard Ellerbe, let it be known yesterday that he is eyeing a May 5th return to the ring and that he is looking to make the biggest fight possible, which would be a date with Pacquiao. Nearly everyone looks at Pacquiao-Mayweather as the number one fight in the sport but that?s not the case if you ask Sampson Lewkowicz, manager to lineal middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. Lewkowicz?s loyalty to his fighter shines through whenever he has a chance to speak and he has made it known that Martinez, a former junior middleweight champion, would be willing to meet either Pacquiao or Mayweather at an agreed-upon catch-weight.

I reached out to the Uruguayan-born Lewkowicz earlier tonight to get his take on everything surrounding Mayweather?s ring return, such as his thoughts on why a fight with Martinez would serve as the bigger fight, the disdain Mayweather has towards Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, why he feels Pacquiao-Mayweather will never happen, and more. Floyd Mayweather returning to pursue the biggest fight possible? ?Well, it?s very nice that he wants the biggest fight, but the biggest fight, by far, is Sergio ?Maravilla? Martinez. Because he will make much more money for Martinez than with Pacquiao. If you read between the lines he wants the biggest fight, which means the biggest purse that he can have. The biggest purse would be Martinez, not Pacquiao.?

A different split? ?Example, he will sell two-million plus no matter who he?s fighting, if it?s Martinez or Pacquiao. So if it?s two-million buyers either it?s 50/50 or maybe even more for Pacquiao. If it?s with Martinez, it would be a different story. It would be less for Martinez, more for Mayweather, and he makes definitely much more than he would with Pacquiao. It would be a different split.?

Mayweather?s dislike of Pacquiao?s promoter Bob Arum? ?The whole situation with Pacquiao, there?s too much ego between each other and Mayweather dislikes, very much, the promoter of Pacquiao and probably doesn?t want to give a dollar to him. Because when you give to Pacquiao, you give to the promoter.?

The devil and the angel? ?On the other hand you have the devil and you have the angel. Mayweather is the devil and Martinez is an angel. And that will sell the tickets. It will sell the pay-per-view and it will sell out the stadium. Because, whoever is with Mayweather, will either love him or will hate him. And those who love him want to see him as the winner and those who hate him want to see him get beat. And if there?s anyone who could be a competitive fight for Mayweather, it would be Martinez.?
