Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe, not the most honest guy in the boxing industry, has come out and told the world that Floyd is interested to fight the ?little fella? Manny Pacquiao in May of next year at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.
After all the lies and deceptions and faked negotiations by Team Mayweather, you have to suspect this is more posturing and posing. And Floyd is actually hoping Pacquiao loses to Marquez. I believe Floyd is just having Ellerbe say this now to cover his rear end- and if Pac Man loses to Marquez, Floyd can proclaim, ?See I wasn?t a duck coward, I was saying I was really gonna fight him. Now I don?t have to fight Manny.?
But let?s hope the massive pressure on Mayweather?s pride combined with alleged severe money problems will force the biggest fight in boxing history to happen next year. Let?s hope this is not yet another scam scheme to fake the public out of the fight we all want to see, once and for all.
As we know, Mayweather can and will say anything to try to save his rep. He lied to the world saying ?Manny you?re next.? A few weeks later Floyd denied he ever said it, ?I never said that, I never said that at all,? Floyd lied, even though it was documented on video.
Leonard Ellerbe?s latest statements are most likely just more Mayweather Bull Jive. I find it interesting that Richard Schaefer and the people at HBO have nothing to say about this development.
If Mayweather really, truly wants to box Manny Pacquiao now, he can prove it by showing up to the Pacquiao-Marquez 3 fight. This will show he?s confident and really eager to get the hype machine rolling.
Heck, HBO should invite Floyd to be a special commentator with Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant for the main event. Or Bob Arum could even try to get Floyd installed as a ringside judge of the actual fight. Floyd could use the extra money, so why not?
Anything to lure Floyd to the fight.
If Floyd doesn?t show up on November 13 ? the fight is just a few miles from his home ? then it shows he?s really not interested to fight Manny Pacquiao. Remember, Muhammad Ali was there in Caracas to watch George Foreman KO Ken Norton but Mike Tyson wasn?t there in London to watch Lennox Lewis KO Frans Botha. Of course, astute ring observers know that Ali fought Foreman next after Norton and Mike Tyson ducked Lewis for a couple of years after Lewis slaughtered Botha.
So let?s wait and see, if Floyd Mayweather has the courage and the cojones to sit ringside and watch Manny Pacquiao close up. Don?t get your hopes up yet though.
