Nonito Donaire needs to stop dwarf-tossing, go after Lopez, Gamboa

If elongated Nonito Donaire Jr. had pulled a Chadwick Dawson and hurled the much smaller Omar Narvaez to the canvas at Madison Square Garden Saturday, it would’ve been an improvement on the boring title bout in which the Argentinean simply refused to engage. When fans start chanting. “This is bullspit,” it’s never a good thing for an athlete even though Donaire did his level best to entertain. But if he flipped and flopped Narvbaez to the floor, Donaire, the Filipino Flash given the big platform in the Big Apple to let his multi-dimensional talent shine, would’ve been accused of dwarf tossing. The 5-7 Fil-Am favorite, listed as a 30-1 betting choice, towered over this “Mild Bull of the Pamapas.” Donaire brightly and rightly branded Narvaez, who came up from the 115 weight class to bantamweight, as a committed in the ring pacifist and compared to Joshua Clottey and the Ghanaian’s dreadful effort against Pinoy Idol Manny Pacquiao. But, looking ahead rather than back to a card on which exciting Mikey Garcia and Irish ticket selling machine Seanie Monaghan earned the top two stars, Donaire must now make a not so bold move up to the featherweight division and its limit of 126 pounds. I mean it, Donaire is at age 28 in his prime time and a stopover at 122 pounds could be a major waste of time. Maybe there’s a big payday in Japan or in Manila against Japanese world champ Toshiaki Nishioka at the way station weight between bantam and feather but who in the US cares a fig about such a matchup. At least Nifty Nishioka stands only a half inch shorter than Donaire.
