Aldeguer praises Donaire?s latest win

NONITO Donaire Jr. continued to carry the banner of the Philippines and gave the country a reason to celebrate after a one-sided unanimous decision win over unwilling challenger Omar Narvaez yesterday in their world title tiff at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

Despite the fight being lackluster because the 36-year-old Narvaez was contented with just defending, ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer believes that it was still a huge victory for Donaire Jr., the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight titleholder.

?It was a great win and Nonito showed that he is one of the best in the world,? the young Cebuano promoter told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.

Donaire Jr. once trained in the ALA Gym a few years back. He had ALA Gym mainstay and Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federatio flyweight titleholder Rocky Fuentes as a sparring partner in his training camp in Cebu.

Aldeguer believes that Donaire Jr. should move up a division higher and gun for his third division world title and thinks WBC super bantamweight titleholder Toshiaki Nishioka would be a nice choice for the ?Filipino Flash?.

?He should go up in weight , which I believe he will be much stronger,? he said. ?I think it would be a great fight against Nishioka.?

Although already 35, Nishioka should be a tough match up for Donaire Jr. because he has fought some of the best and hasn?t tasted defeat since 2004.

Nishioka, 39-4-3 with 24 knockouts, has held his crown since 2008 and has defended it seven times, including wins over Jhonny Gonzalez and Rafael Marquez.

Another option for Donaire Jr. is WBO super bantamweight champion Jorge Arce.
