Marquez turns to ‘magic’ potion

MANILA, Philippines ? Juan Manuel Marquez has a bizarre concoction and an equally outlandish training method that he believes could hold the key to his success against Manny Pacquiao on Nov. 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Marquez revealed in a soon-to-be-released episode of the highly-acclaimed 24/7 series produced by HBO about a routine that follows after he does his morning roadwork.

?After running, I rest and for breakfast I have quail eggs. I mix 25 quail eggs with orange juice,? said the 38-year-old Marquez.

As he gets energized by that fruit-cum-poultry potion in his morning training, Marquez will undergo another strange regimen in the afternoon: getting inside a tank to inhale pure oxygen.

?After training I get into a tank. I breath pure oxygen through a mask while inside.?

While these methods appear unique, nothing compares to Marquez?s reported practice of drinking his own urine, something that he decided to do after a consultation with a Mexican doctor years ago.

Still, Marquez said hard training will play a big role in determining victory from defeat, stressing that he will lean on his ?intelligence, patience and counter-punch? come fight night.

Trainer Nacho Beristain said Marquez is technically superior as evidenced by the result of the first two fights his fighter should have won.

Admitting that Pacquiao?s ?brute force? worries him a lot, Beristain said Marquez should keep the Filipino from a distance, a tactic that has actually worked in the past.
