There’s no other fighter today that is more polarizing. Floyd Mayweather Jr has a legion of fans and he has a legion of haters. His actions at times outside of the ring have gotten him into some hot water with the law, but it is important to point out that Floyd has done many good things for people as well. Of course his haters will never give him any credit for the good that he’s done, but do you think that the homeless person in Vegas gives a damn about what some hater thinks about Floyd when he just received food and water and blankets? Floyd has done many good things for homeless people and that’s a fact.
Is Floyd a bit cocky at times? Yes he is, but some of what you see on camera is Floyd doing his part to promote his fights. The man knows how to sell tickets, and he knows how to get the fans to buy the PPV’s. With that said, it’s not all an act. On a recent episode of HBO’s 24/7 Floyd and his father got into a very heated exchange at the gym where both men said some things that they probably regret saying. Recently 8CN spoke with Jeff Mayweather, and he confirmed to us that the argument was not a staged skit by HBO for ratings, it was very real.
Floyd has made his share of mistakes and sooner or later he will still have to face a judge concerning a slander suit filed by Manny Pacquiao. Despite his out of the ring issues, one should respect Floyd for a few things. Nobody sells tickets like Floyd Mayweather Jr. He is an expert at promoting a fight, and he knows when to turn it on for the cameras. His on camera persona creates both love and hate. Some fans love him for it and some fans hate it for him, but guess what? Both sides of the fence sells tickets. People will buy tickets to his fights either because they want to see someone knock him out, or they want to see Floyd knockout his opponent. Either way, people buy the tickets.
Hate him or not, Floyd is a wizard in the ring. There have been many who have stepped into the ring with him, and all of them left the ring defeated. Say what you want about Floyd Mayweather Jr, but he’s undefeated and financially free. Could he be more humble about his wealth and fame? Yes. Floyd has his flaws and for those who follow the sport of boxing, you all know what they are. With that said, his fighting skills must be respected by all. His charity work and his willingness to feed homeless people must be respected as well. This of course is a tall order to ask for those who despise the man. Don’t respect his issues with the law, but respect his abilities in the ring and respect his charitable heart when he’s giving to the less fortunate.
