Being the younger brother of one of the best fighters in the world has it’s ups and down. Lightweight contender Bobby Pacquiao has quietly put together a few wins stopping the durable Carlos Navarro last year and then wining a controversial split decision over Carlos Hernandez. On June 10th, B-Pac looks to continue that trend as he takes on the veteran Kevin Kelly on the televised under-card of the Cotto-Malignaggi fight at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Pacquiao has long been looking to step out of his famous Brother’s shadow to find a healthy slice of his own fame. A proud and strong man, Bobby has been said to live on his own means in the native Philippines refusing many of the luxuries that come with being kin to the most famous man in the country. Bobby has strived and worked hard to get himself into position to fight on the world stage, and that perseverance has paid off as he’s recently been signed to promotional juggernaut Top Rank Promotions. “I am very happy and feel great about signing with Top Rank. A win on a highly televised Pay Per View should be a big step in the right direction for Pacquiao. Fighting under the banner of one of the most famous names in boxing can only be helpful as Bobby looks towards bigger and better things. Yet with all the acclaim coming, Bobby remains humble, and points out that his perspective is still on point with what’s truly important: “My life is very different now, it has turned around. I am very happy that I have given glory, and honor to my country.”
And nothing would make his country more proud than to continue bringing the acclaim they’ve become accustom to with the Pacquiao name over the last few years.
