Much has been rumored and written about the proposed bout between W.B.A. and I.B.F. Featherweight Champion Juan Manuel Marquez and Filipino sensation Manny Pacquiao. Money would seem to be a central issue, as Marquez was reportedly low balled for a match of significant importance. In a conversation with Ignacio Beristain, Marquez’s trainer and manager informed Boxingtalk that money does not make the world go round. Team Marquez demands respect from Top Rank, respect they feel Marquez has earned in the featherweight division.
RL: Mr. Beristain, how does it feel managing and training two of the best fighters in the world today?
IB: Well, it is a little worrisome. Being the best featherweight boxer in the world is causing us some problems that we have not been able to resolve.
RL: I can imagine the problem is the negotiations for the fight between Manny Pacquiao and your fighter Juan Manuel Marquez.
IB: That is principal issue in these problems.
