CZAR Amonsot survived a first-round knockdown to win his second US fight via a close unanimous decision over Puerto Rican slugger Jose “El Gallo” Reyes after 10 rounds in “Guilty Fight Night” at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada yesterday.
The scores read, 96-93, on two judges’ cards and 95-94 on the third judge, all for Amonsot.
The WBO No.7 ranked Tagbilaran-City puncher landed more frequent and harder punches as he rallied hard to win the match.
Meanwhile, flyweight Along Denoy’s fight was declared a no-decision after four rounds following an accidental headbutt. His opponent, Esau Gaona, a hard-punching Mexican, sustained a nasty cut above the eye.
Denoy, who was making his US debut, was leading on all scorecards when the fight was stopped at 15 seconds into the fifth round.
Amonsot, the reigning WBO Asia-Pacific junior lightweight champion, was caught napping in the first round as Reyes dropped a straight that put him on the canvas briefly.
However, Amonsot, who is not new to this situation, quickly shook off the dizziness and defended himself until the end of the first round.
Reyes continued to release heavy punches forcing Amonsot to counter his way out of danger.
Amonsot, 20, started to get his rhythm going in the fourth by using a left-ring combination that put the Puerto Rican on the defensive.
Amonsot then dominated the rest of the way to score his second win in the US.
The win improved Amonsot’s win-loss record to 16-1-1 with 10 KOs. The 28-year-old Reyes dropped to 18-3, 7KOs.
After the no-contest ruling of the Denoy-Gaona match, Denoy stayed at 13-5, 5Kos, while Gaona remained at 12-2, 8KOs.
