Quijano: Settling the score, once and for all

Well, I sure hope veteran referee Joe ?I?m fair but I?m firm? Cortez doesn?t do an Ortiz-Mayweather 2 and gets distracted by ogling those lovely Bacolod lasses seated ringside while the real hot action is going on in front of his face.

UFC 136. Another blockbuster mixed-martial arts extravaganza explodes today with Gray Maynard facing off against Frankie Edgar.

To recall, this is already the third matchup between these two rivals. The first one was way back in 2008 which Maynard won by decision and well below the radar of most fight fans.

But the second installment with both fighters having better name recognition was the main event in UFC 126 and its somewhat controversial verdict only seemed to fuel the fire for today?s much-anticipated third bout.

In that rematch, I thought Maynard deserved the win although I fully concede that Edgar too had his moments. But the first was a 10-8 round at the very least with the way Maynard pummeled the smaller Edgar around the ring like a rag doll.

But the latter?s miraculous recovery powers allowed him to get back in the fight and in the very next round, he was landing some pretty big shots on Maynard.

I scored the last round for Maynard and I also gave him the third which I thought was enough for him to earn the nod. At any rate, all scores will be settled today.
