NEGRENSE world boxing champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes said Thursday that his opponent, reigning WBO light flyweight champion Ramon “Principe” Garcia of Mexico, is “no prince here” in his hometown.
Nietes said he is aiming for an early knock out at the Pinoy Pride 9 WBO world light flyweight championship to be held at the University of Saint La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City, Saturday.
Nietes’s compatriots AJ “Bazooka” Banal and Prince Albert Pagara will also fight in the undercard of the Nietes-Garcia faceoff. Banal will fight Mexican Mario Briones while Pagara will battle Kenyan Shaaban Madilu.
The Filipino boxers paid a courtesy visit to Bacolod City Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia Thursday along with ALA Promotions director for Media and Events Chad Canares and Coach/Trainer Edmund Villamor.
Nietes said he is motivated and inspired to knock out Garcia in front of his home crowd. “I am prepared to win this fight,” Nietes said.
He asked everyone to wear either purple or black as a show of support to him, as he will be wearing purple-colored trunks.
Mayor Leonardia said that this is again historic for Bacolod because, for the first time, the city will host a world boxing championship match.
