MANILA, Philippines – Clyde Drexler, the great NBA player, is torn between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Without being asked, the 10-time All-Star dropped the name of the Filipino boxing superstar during a well-attended press conference at the Palladium yesterday noon.
?When I look at Manny Pacquiao it makes me feel good,? said Drexler, in the country for the eighth edition of the NBA Madness.
The 49-year-old Drexler played 15 seasons in the NBA and won a title with the Houston Rockets in 1995. Three years before that, he won the Olympic gold as part of the NBA Dream Team.
He said knowing Pacquiao?s life story makes him feel good.
?I know how he loves his country. How he crossed all the boundaries in sports,? said Drexler, nicknamed ?The Glide? for his high-wire highlight dunks.
Later on, in an exclusive interview set up by NBA Asia and Solar Sports, Drexler continued to talk about Pacquiao.
It was obvious that he knows the man, that he?s a fan.
?I?ve been following his boxing career,? the NBA Hall of Famer said of Pacquiao, himself a future Hall of Famer in boxing.
?I really admire what he?s been able to do coming from the Philippines. I know he is well-loved in his country,? said Drexler.
The 6-foot-7 guard said Pacquiao?s tremendous popularity worldwide is just a testament to ?his work ethic and great personality.?
Then he was asked about the possibility of the superfight between Pacquiao and Mayweather, the cocky, undefeated American.
